221b-tea-party:

I’m doing a giant Sherlock giveaway to celebrate several very important things! First I’ll tell you about the giveaway and then I’ll tell you what I’m celebrating.
(sorry about the crappy quality, the pictures were taken on various surfaces around my house.)
Prizes: The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of the Four by Arthur Conan Doyle, w/ BBC Sherlock covers; Sherlock Series 1 & 2; The Sherlock Files: The Official Companion to the Hit Television Series by Guy Adams; a DVD of Sherlock Homes: A Game of Shadows; an “I am Sher-locked” T-shirt, size large; a dark blue Sherlock-esque scarf; Sherlock’s flag pillow; a Sherlock pendant; Sherlock earrings; a ebook of Locked; three pre-orders of Sherlock Series 3.
Rules:
The giveaway runs until February 10th, 2014.
One winner gets all the prizes listed, plus an Amazon pre-order of Sherlock Series 3. Three additional winners will get a pre-order as well.
Giveaway is worldwide. (I’m not sure if I can pre-order something on Amazon for someone in another country, but if I can’t, I’ll send you a gift card for the amount)
Both reblogs and likes count. The winner does not have to be following me.
You can reblog as many times as you like per day.
Winners must have their askboxes open. (If you don’t, I’ll try to contact you somehow, but it’s way easier if your askbox is open.)

So why am I giving away all my Sherlock stuff?
Well, partially because I’m moving and I need to get rid of stuff anyway. But MOSTLY because I have some really important news for anyone who writes Sherlock fanfic, and I want to spread it around.
You can now publish Sherlock Holmes fanfiction on Amazon (or elsewhere) without needing to get permission to use the rights.
This is big news that came out at the same time as Series 3, so it got buried, but you can read about it here and here and here. Essentially, a judge has just decided that Sherlock Holmes is in the public domain. He can be adapted by other authors. THIS IS HUGE.
I can’t tell you how often I’ve had my heart torn out and shredded by a Sherlock fic. (Hey thanks, Alone on the Water.) Or how many times I’ve marveled at the amount of work that must have gone into a fic. This shit is worth a few dollars. If you choose to self-publish your Sherlock fic, I will gladly buy it. (obvs you can’t use any BBC chars, like Molly, but everything else is up for grabs.)
Some of you may know me as fanfic writer last_hurrah. I put up a Johnlock teen AU during a pretty difficult time in my life, and I’m not kidding when I say that the overwhelming response got me through it. The Sherlock fandom is such a positive place, and I’ve cried more than once at incredibly kind reviews and messages left by strangers.
You might be wondering about one of the prizes - a ebook of Locked by Eva Morgan. Eva Morgan is me, and Locked is the Sherlock book I’m self-publishing.
I know you can read Sherlock fanfic online for free. I would really, really rather post this online for free. But I need a way to make a living right now, and this is the only thing anyone has ever said I’m good at.
It’ll be available to buy online on Amazon, Barnes & Nobles, Kobo, and Smashwords starting February 10th, 2014 (when the giveaway ends), and it’ll cost $2.99. Which is the cost of a large fry at McDonalds.
This isn’t me demanding you buy my book. I put a year of work into it, including an entire rewrite, and I would be so happy if you did buy it. But you don’t have to. Mostly, this is me wanting to say that we pay for the things we value, and there are so many Sherlock fic writers out there that deserve to be paid for what they do.
Other fandoms don’t have this opportunity. (Sorry Supernatural and Dr. Who, I love you anyway.) We are seriously lucky. And if there’s one thing I know about the Sherlock fandom, it’s that we can do anything.
Anyway. It’s pretty nerve-wracking to finally post this, but here’s the blurb for Locked:
|||
Seventeen-year-old Irene Adler hasn’t cared much for living since her sister died. Until Sherlock Holmes moves in next door.Sherlock is a conceited, sharp-cheekboned nightmare—and Irene’s first real friend in ages. Within a day, he’s partnered with her to solve their school’s mysteries. Within a week, he’s saved her life in more ways than one. Within a month, the whole school thinks he’s a murderer. When Sherlock is found alone with a dead girl, he and Irene must crack the case under a hailstorm of hate—before the killer comes after the genius who gave Irene her life back.

I don’t want to clutter this post with the full-size cover and excerpt, since most of you guys are probably just here for the giveaway, but if you’re interested you can click here to find the page for it on my blog.
